How to properly prepare ceramic tiles for transportation?

Ceramic tiles are fragile and sensitive to mechanical impacts. Damage to one package can lead to damage to the entire batch. To avoid losses, it is important not only to choose a reliable logistics company, but also to properly prepare the tiles for transportation. In this article, we will look at the main stages of preparation that will help keep the goods safe and sound.

1. Primary packaging from the manufacturer

As a rule, tiles come from the factory already in basic packaging: packed in cardboard boxes with a tight fit. It is important to make sure that each box protects the tiles from friction, vibrations and pressure. If the packaging is weak, it is worth replacing it or additionally strengthening it.

2. Palletizing is the basis for safe delivery

One of the key stages of preparation is stacking boxes on pallets. This makes transportation more convenient and reduces the risk of damage. Basic rules:

  • Use only sturdy wooden or plastic pallets.
  • The boxes are stacked in a staggered pattern so that the load is distributed evenly.
  • It is advisable to use a gasket material (corrugated cardboard, foam) between the layers.
  • The total height of the pallet should not exceed 1.2-1.5 meters for stability.

3. Protective winding

After stacking the boxes, the pallet must be secured with stretch film. This protects the cargo from dust, moisture and shifting of boxes during transport. In case of long-distance transportation, heat-shrinkable film and protective corners can be additionally used.

4. Marking and documentation

Each pallet must be clearly marked: the name of the tile, the number of boxes, the weight, the date of shipment and the destination. This facilitates unloading, inventory and speeds up customs clearance during international shipments.

It is also necessary to prepare accompanying documentation in advance:

  • Overhead;
  • Quality certificates;
  • Packing lists;
  • Invoices (for export).

5. Taking into account temperature conditions

Some types of tiles are sensitive to sudden changes in temperature and humidity. If transportation occurs in winter or along routes with variable climates, it is worth using climate-controlled transport or additional thermal insulation of pallets.

6. Correct loading into transport

Even with perfect packaging, improper loading can damage the cargo. The tiles must be secured inside the body, not touch other types of cargo and be in a stable position. It is important that the logistics company uses belts, spacers and other means of securing the cargo.
